I was seriously dragging my feet for this project. I had just finished the rest of my classes and this was the last thing to do for the semester. I had sculpted the hands on all the rest of my figures, and I just wanted my professor to look at those and get the gist that I’m decent at sculpting hands. However, once I actually got into the studio, I realized how different this project was from the others. Since the hand wasn’t attached to a figure, I held it the whole time I sculpted it, which made me treat it differently. I had to be more calculated with my actions and the pressure I was using, as well as the order in which I did things. I thought this project was just going to be another form of practice, and I was avoiding it because I got too smug and felt as though all my other projects showed my skill of hand-making. Too often, I skip the skill-building exercises because I want to jump into bigger projects. I get scared of adding things to my to-do list that seem excessive. However, once you tell yourself to just spend 1-2 hours on a fun little exercise, that’s where the magic of learning takes place. #art #scuplting #scuplture #makeart #makearteveryday #clay #practicemakesbetter #practice
